From Hamaki Cabana to Hamakija - the same passion, today with doubled strength

From Hamaki Cabana to Hamakija - the same passion, experience, and hammocks from Mexico
You may have known us for many years.
Perhaps you bought your first Mexican hammock back at the Hamaki Cabana store. Perhaps you met Wojtek at one of our events, saw him on television, used his advice on choosing or installing a hammock, or simply came across our website full of colorful, hand-woven hammocks from Mexico.
If so, you have come to the right place.
Hamakija grows from the history of Hamaki Cabana.

This is not a random similarity of products, nor is it another store just discovering the world of Mexican hammocks. Behind Hamakija lies knowledge gained over years, direct contact with Mexico, thousands of conversations with customers, hundreds of installations, and the experience of a man who has been helping Poles discover true relaxation in a hammock since 2010.
That man is Wojtek – the creator of Hamaki Cabana and now the co-founder of Hamakija.

So, Hamakija is not the beginning of our journey with hammocks.
It is its next, more mature chapter.
It all started in 2010
The story we are continuing today as Hamakija officially began on June 1, 2010. That was when Wojtek started the venture from which the Hamaki Cabana brand eventually grew.
This means that in 2026, Hamakija stands on 16 years of experience in the world of hammocks, hanging chairs, installation, and Mexican craftsmanship.
Sixteen years, however, is not just a date on documents.
It is thousands of hours dedicated to learning about products, materials, and weaving techniques. It is watching how individual hammocks behave after a few months and after many years of use. It is conversations with customers who were looking for a hammock for their garden, apartment, child's room, hotel, terrace, or a small balcony.
It is also dozens of questions that cannot be answered by just browsing a manufacturer's catalog:
-
what size of hammock will truly be comfortable,
-
how does a thin weave differ from a thick one,
-
when to choose cotton and when to choose nylon,
-
how to hang a hammock in an apartment,
-
how much space is needed between mounting points,
-
which hanging chair will work on a small balcony,
-
why two similar-looking hammocks can provide completely different comfort.
Answers to such questions come with time. Through observation. Through testing. Through mistakes made. Through visiting customers and seeing hundreds of different installation sites.
You cannot buy or recreate this experience in a few months.
Hamaki Cabana - the brand that brought Mexico closer to Poles
When Hamaki Cabana was founded, real Mexican hammocks were not as well known in Poland as they are today.
Many people associated a hammock primarily with a short piece of fabric hung between two trees. Sometimes with wooden spreader bars, which looked good in photos but often made it difficult to comfortably position one's body.
A Mexican hammock was something completely different.
Light, openwork, flexible, and woven from a huge number of threads. Instead of creating a rigid surface, it conformed to the body's shape. It allowed one to relax crosswise, diagonally, or almost completely hide inside it.
These were exactly the kind of hammocks Wojtek wanted to introduce in Poland.
From the beginning, Cabana was not intended to be a place for selling random garden products. At its heart were traditional hammocks from Mexico – colorful, hand-woven, and created by people who passed their skills down from generation to generation.
The goal was not to import the cheapest hammock.
The goal was to find a hammock in which one truly wants to relax.
Mexico, Yucatan, and meeting true craftsmanship
Mexico was never just an exotic destination on a map.
It is a country whose language, culture, music, and way of life became exceptionally close to him. Wojtek speaks Spanish, spent years getting to know Latin America, and observed how important a hammock is in everyday life there.
The Yucatan holds a special place in this story.
It is on the Yucatan Peninsula that the tradition of hand-weaving hammocks is still alive. In many homes, a hammock is not a seasonal decoration brought out for a few weeks of summer. It is a standard, daily piece of furniture - a place for rest, conversation, a nap, and often even for sleeping at night.
During our stays in Mexico, we had the opportunity to see how such hammocks are made.
Not in huge production halls.
Not on automated lines.
Hammocks were woven on simple wooden looms often set up in backyards or in the homes of local artisans. Successive threads were guided by hand, maintaining the correct density and proportions. Making one hammock could take from a few days to even several weeks - depending on its size, the type of thread, and the complexity of the pattern.
Every mistake meant having to undo the work and unravel a portion of the weave.
That is when it becomes clear that a real Mexican hammock is not a common textile product.
It is a craft that requires patience, experience, and extremely precise work.
Wojtek not only observed this process. He also tried weaving a hammock himself, learned the tools used, the types of threads, and the differences between various weaves.
This knowledge remains of huge importance for Hamakija today.
It allows us to distinguish a carefully made product from a hammock that only looks impressive at first glance.

Not just sales, but also education
From the beginning, one of the most important elements of Hamaki Cabana's activity was explaining what a good hammock really is.
Customers asked if a Mexican hammock would be suitable for sleeping, how one should lie in it, whether it could hang on a balcony, and whether its installation required two large trees.
That is why guides, instructions, and videos were created, showing, among other things:
-
how to choose the right hammock size,
-
how to hang a hammock on a balcony,
-
how to install mounts in a home,
-
how cotton differs from nylon,
-
how to use a large family hammock,
-
how to properly relax in a hammock without spreader bars,
-
how to care for the weave so it lasts for many seasons.
As early as 2017, Cabana published materials showing the professional installation of a hammock on a balcony and in an apartment. In the following years, extensive texts were created about choosing a hammock, traditional Yucatan craftsmanship, and different ways of using hammocks.
We continue this approach today on the Hamakija blog.
We do not just want to show products.
We want to help everyone find a hammock tailored to their space, needs, and way of relaxing.

Hamaki Cabana outside the internet
Cabana's history did not take place only in front of a computer screen.
Hammocks appeared at trade fairs, outdoor events, and meetings dedicated to Mexican culture. They could be seen, among other places, at the Mexican Breakfast Market, where alongside music, food, and family attractions, a real relaxation zone was created.
In 2018, colorful Cabana hammocks also appeared in the garden of the television program „Pytanie na Śniadanie”. There, Wojtek talked about where the idea for the brand came from, what determines the comfort of a hammock, and how it can be hung in an apartment.
For many people, this was their first contact with a real Mexican hammock.
Not a canvas lounge chair.
Not a seasonal gadget.
A large, flexible weave in which one can comfortably position the entire body.
Installation that cannot be learned from a single manual
One of the most important areas of the experience gained by Wojtek over all these years is hammock installation.
Every space is different.
Sometimes a client has two large trees, but they are too far apart. Other times, they have a small balcony where every centimeter counts. In an apartment, one must assess the type of wall, choose appropriate mounting elements, and find a spot that is simultaneously comfortable, safe, and aesthetic.
There have been hammocks installed:
-
in living rooms,
-
in children's rooms,
-
on mezzanines,
-
on apartment balconies,
-
on terraces,
-
in gazebos,
-
in summer houses,
-
between trees,
-
on wooden and metal structures,
-
in hotel and recreation spaces.
After so many years, it is hard to find a situation that Wojtek has not encountered before.
That is why at Hamakija, we do not want to leave the customer alone with the question: "Will this hammock fit in my place?".
You can send us a photo of the space, provide the distance between mounting points, or tell us where you want to create your relaxation zone. We will help you choose the right model and mounting method.

Why was the Hamaki Cabana chapter closed?
Every brand has its time.
Hamaki Cabana played a huge role in our history. It was thanks to them that over the years, the knowledge, customer relationships, and experience that are now one of the most important foundations of Hamakija were built.
At a certain point, however, Wojtek decided that it was time to close this chapter.
Not because he stopped loving hammocks.
Not because the passion for Mexico had disappeared.
On the contrary – this story needed new energy, a fresh perspective, and an idea corresponding to how we want to talk about rest today.
That was when our paths met for good.
Rafał and Wojtek - Hamakija was born from friendship

Hamakija began with a meeting of two people.
Wojtek brought to it years of knowledge about hammocks, the experience of Cabana, knowledge of Mexico, the Spanish language, traditional craftsmanship, and installation.
I, Rafał, brought new energy, a family perspective on rest, experience in developing projects, and an idea for a brand that would talk not only about the products themselves but above all about the moments we can experience thanks to them.
We were united by a similar vision.
We did not want to create another anonymous online store with garden equipment.
We wanted to build a brand backed by real people, real experience, and products with their own history.
That is how Hamakija was born.

Is Hamakija just a new name for Hamaki Cabana?
It would not be completely accurate to say that Hamaki Cabana simply changed its name to Hamakija.
Hamakija is a new brand created together by Rafał and Wojtek.
At the same time, there would be no Hamakija in its current form without the experience gained over the years at Hamaki Cabana.
Therefore, we can honestly say:
Hamakija is a continuation of the hammock passion, knowledge, and experience that began with Hamaki Cabana in 2010.
The brand name has changed.
The way we talk about rest has evolved.
New ideas, new collections, and new possibilities have appeared.
However, what is most important has not changed:
-
love for Mexico,
-
respect for manual work,
-
the search for true comfort,
-
attention to quality,
-
individual consulting,
-
help with selection and installation,
-
the belief that a hammock should last for years.
What remained of Hamaki Cabana?
First of all, the person remained.
If you have ever spoken to Wojtek, asked him for help in choosing a hammock, or used his experience in installation, you will find him today at Hamakija.
Knowledge of Mexican weaves, materials, and sizes also remained.
The conviction that a large hammock should actually allow you to position your body comfortably, rather than being "large" in name only, remained.
Knowledge of the differences between cotton and nylon hammocks, thin and thick weaves, single-person, family, and XXL models remained.
Relationships with Mexico and the fascination with Yucatan craftsmanship remained.
The need for honest advice also remained. Sometimes this means recommending a larger model. Other times, telling a customer that a smaller hammock is quite sufficient or that a hammock chair would be a better solution for their specific space.
We do not want to sell the greatest number of products.
We want someone, after making a purchase, to lie down in their hammock and think:
"This is exactly what I needed."
What does Hamakija bring that is new?
Hamakija develops the old story in a new direction.
We are focusing even more strongly on the family, daily rest, and creating one's own space to which one wants to return.
We show hammocks not only as garden equipment but also as part of real life:
morning coffee drunk in silence,
reading a book together with a child,
a nap after work,
an evening under string lights,
conversation with a loved one,
a moment without a phone,
a holiday memory that can be created in one's own garden.
We are also developing collections of natural hammocks, models inspired by the sea and ocean, large family hammocks, and Mexican hanging chairs for the home, garden, and balcony.
We want to show that a good hammock can fit both a colorful, Latin-style garden and a calm interior in boho, Scandinavian, or natural styles.

We do not want to offer random products
From the beginning, it was important to us that Hamakija does not become another store filled with random products that look good only in photos.
We are not interested in mediocrity.
We choose only such hammocks and accessories that we ourselves would proudly hang in our own home or garden. We pay attention not only to appearance but also to the quality of materials, the durability of the weave, comfort of use, and the workmanship of each product.
We want to offer things that delight not only on the day of purchase but also after many seasons of rest.
The natural boho style is particularly close to us - warm, free, and unique. It is precisely the natural colors, manual work, traditional weaves, and subtle differences between individual pieces that give each hammock its own character.
We are not looking for products created solely to be as cheap as possible.
We are looking for things that bring a sense of closeness to nature, peace, and uniqueness to a home, garden, or terrace. Things that allow a simple fragment of space to become one's own place of rest - for reading, conversation, spending time together, or simply peaceful doing nothing.
Our goal is to create a one-of-a-kind place in Poland - combining real Mexican craftsmanship, the highest quality of materials, natural boho aesthetics, and experience gained over many years.
We don't want to have everything. We only want to have things that truly provide a sense of nature, quality, and uniqueness.
Sixteen years of experience that isn't visible at first glance
When you look at a hammock in an online store, you primarily see its color, size, and price.
However, you don't see all the decisions that were made beforehand.
You don't see the hours spent comparing weaves.
You don't see the products that were rejected because they didn't meet our expectations.
You don't see the conversations with customers who returned years later for another hammock.
You don't see the hundreds of installations where a solution had to be adapted to an unusual wall, a small balcony, or a large distance between trees.
You don't see the trips to Mexico, the language learning, the meetings with artisans, or the first attempts at weaving a hammock on a wooden loom.
And yet, all this experience is present in every product we choose for Hamakija.
For long-time Hamaki Cabana customers
If you found your way here because you were looking for Hamaki Cabana, we want to tell you one thing:
we are glad you found us.
Wojtek is still a part of this story.
His knowledge, experience, and love for Mexico are one of the foundations of Hamakija today.
You can once again ask us for help in choosing a hammock, pick out accessories, ask about installation, or find a new model for yourself and your family.
If you have an old Cabana hammock at home, we would also love to see a photo of it and learn its story.
Some of these hammocks have been serving customers for many years. They have witnessed family gatherings, children's play, summer evenings, and thousands of peaceful moments.
For us, there is no better confirmation of quality.
We are not starting from scratch
Hamakija is a young brand, but it is not a brand without history.
Behind its name stands experience gained since 2010.
Behind it stands Hamaki Cabana.
Behind it stand travels to Mexico.
Behind it stand meetings with artisans from the Yucatan.
Behind it stand guides, events, television appearances, installations, and thousands of conversations with customers.
Above all, however, it is supported by people who still believe that rest is not a waste of time.
It is a need.
It is a way to be closer to family.
It is a moment when we can put down our phones, slow down, and remind ourselves that not every minute has to be productive.
From Cabana to Hamakija - the story continues
Hamaki Cabana was an important beginning.
Hamakija is a continuation of that story.
A new name, a new energy, and a shared project, but with the same respect for tradition, craftsmanship, and the people who create our hammocks.
We look to the future, but we do not cut ourselves off from the past.
We are proud of it.
Because without Hamaki Cabana, there would be no Hamakija today.
And without all the customers who trusted Wojtek over the years, recommended his hammocks to their friends, returned for more models, and sent photos of their relaxation zones, this story could not continue.
Thank you for being a part of it.
Regardless of whether you have known us for over a dozen years or arrived here for the first time.
Make yourselves at home.
Find your color, your size, and your place to rest.
Welcome to Hamakija - a place where sixteen years of experience meets new energy and the same love for hammocks from Mexico.
